What are the main classifications of power supply methods?
Author:
AC power is currently the most common method of power supply, with voltage and current varying periodically over time.
Power supply methods are mainly divided into the following categories:
1. AC Power Supply: AC power supply is currently the most common type of power supply, in which voltage and current vary periodically with time. The primary advantage of AC power is its ease of voltage transformation, making it well-suited for long-distance transmission. AC power systems include single-phase AC and three-phase AC. Common AC supply voltages include 220 volts (household voltage), 380 volts (industrial voltage), and higher-voltage transmission lines such as 10 kV, 35 kV, and 110 kV.
2. DC Power Supply: A DC power supply is characterized by a constant and unchanging direction of voltage and current. It is primarily used in specific applications such as electronic devices, electric vehicle charging, and solar photovoltaic power generation. The advantages of DC power supply include simple equipment and convenient control; however, it suffers from relatively high transmission losses over long distances.
3. Hybrid Power Supply: A hybrid power supply system combines the characteristics of both AC and DC power supplies, typically featuring both AC and DC electricity simultaneously within the system. For example, data centers and communication base stations often employ hybrid power systems that include AC input, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and DC output.
4. Distributed Power Supply: Distributed power supply refers to the practice of locating power-generation equipment near users, thereby achieving small-scale, decentralized electricity provision. This approach is particularly suitable for renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation. It can reduce transmission losses and enhance the reliability of power supply.
5. Centralized Power Supply: Centralized power supply refers to the generation of electricity at large-scale power plants, which is then transmitted to users via the power grid. This method is the primary form of power supply in China and is suitable for large-scale power generation methods such as thermal power and hydropower.
6. Independent power supply: Independent power supply refers to a method of providing electricity to a specific area or piece of equipment without relying on the power grid. Examples include solar power systems in remote areas and small-scale wind power systems.
